The Univers type specimen takes inspiration from corporate office furniture catalogs, particularly around the late 1950s to early 1970s when Univers took off. There is an interesting parallel of events and attitudes towards both subjects—the type specimen will highlight these in addition to supplying a sardonic tone that foreshadows the fall from grace. Both inventions of the typeface Univers and the Bürolandschaft (Open Office) movement were intended to be flexible and expandable systems developed as a response to the preceding trends which were viewed as restrictive and rigid.
